This World Lab Day we decided to show a glimpse into the Labotec sales team’s day as they visit laboratories across South Africa, connecting with scientists, supporting innovation, and gaining insight into the incredible work happening behind the scenes.
Thandeka Sithole visits the pharmaceutical department of an academic institution in Pretoria, where cutting-edge research focuses on medicinal plant extraction, phytochemical analysis, chemometrics, molecular docking, and zebrafish-based biological assays. Their work contributes to advancements in drug discovery and natural product research.
Tracy da Mata visits an accredited laboratory in Wellington, Western Cape, which provides analysis of a wide range of samples. The lab specialises in chemistry, microbiology, and hygiene monitoring for the agricultural and food-processing industries.
Thanyani Tshiswaise visits a university’s Molecular & Genetics department, where a Master’s student is investigating the role of the NS1 protein in the replication cycle of African horse sickness virus. The department conducts gene expression studies, CRISPR/Cas gene editing, and gene cloning for various biotechnology applications.
Thobeka Ntshalintshali visits the pathology lab of a microbiology research institute in Johannesburg. The lab conducts PCR-based testing for diseases such as meningitis and respiratory infections, playing a vital role in public health.
Girly Masindi visits the Mechanical & Engineering department at a university in Florida, capturing vibrant group moments and showcasing the people behind the science.
Teboho Maleho visits a water testing laboratory in the Vaal Dam area, where water quality is analysed for the Emfuleni region. Their work helps ensure access to clean water that meets essential standards of safety, purity, and quality.
