Labotec was pleased to participate in the Gene Editing in Zebrafish for Disease Modelling workshop hosted by the University of KwaZulu-Natal in collaboration with Gene4All. The event brought together local professors, researchers, and technicians from institutions across South Africa for several days of hands-on training focused on zebrafish gene editing techniques.

The workshop covered a full workflow—ranging from gene editing strategy design to the generation of mutant lines—and encouraged productive discussions on the role of zebrafish as a versatile model in genetic research and disease studies. The enthusiasm and engagement from participants made the sessions particularly rewarding.

As part of the programme, Labotec provided an overview of solutions available for zebrafish facility support, with equipment from Tecniplast. The presentation aimed to offer practical insight into how these systems can streamline day-to-day workflows and assist both new and established research facilities in maintaining healthy and productive zebrafish colonies.

During the hands-on component of the workshop, attendees also had the opportunity to make use of a Tecniplast breeding tank. This proved helpful in generating eggs needed for microinjection exercises—an essential part of the practical training.
